✅ 5+ years experience in a building department or building construction industry

✅ 3+ years in a supervisory/management role

About the Role

 

Charles Abbott Associates (CAA) is hiring a Certified Building Official to lead Building Permit and Inspection Division operations for one of our client cities in the Metro Atlanta area.

 

This is a hands-on leadership role. You'll manage the full scope of building department operations — inspections, permit issuance, plan review — while supervising professional and technical staff. You'll be the go-to authority on code interpretation, enforcement decisions, and resolving technical issues.

What You'll Do

 

Plan, organize, and manage all Building Permit and Inspection Division operations

Direct and review the work of inspectors, plan checkers, and permit technicians

Ensure uniform, equitable enforcement of building codes with a focus on public safety

Provide authoritative interpretation of applicable codes, rules, and regulations

Resolve technical problems of enforcement with contractors, architects, and engineers

Maintain high-quality customer service to city staff, developers, and the public

What You Bring

 

ICC Certified Building Official (CBO) — current and active (firm requirement)

Bachelor’s degree in a related field AND 5+ years in a building department or construction industry, with 3+ years in a supervisory role — OR an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience

Extensive knowledge of structural, plumbing, electrical, and mechanical construction principles

Strong familiarity with IBC, IRC, NEC, IMC, IPC, and applicable federal, state, and local codes

Experience with plan review procedures, permit issuance, and record keeping

Excellent interpersonal and communication skills

Compensation

 

$41.00 – $46.00/hour
