Charles Abbott Associates is seeking an experienced and motivated Plan Check Engineer to join our amazing team of professionals. This is an exceptional opportunity to become a key member of our highly qualified, collaborative, and motivated building plan review team

Job Requirements

  • Must be a registered Professional Engineer or Architect in the state of California and have experience using current building codes and referenced standards to design or plan check various types of structures.

  • Perform plan checks to ensure minimum design criteria for commercial, industrial, and residential projects. 

  • Review plan check submitted documents for compliance with federal, state, and local building codes and ordinances including construction methods and materials; and reviews and approves building plans governing the construction, alteration, repair, and use of buildings and structures.

  • Assist design professionals, contractors, and homeowners, by providing information and interpretations of building codes and regulations, recommends necessary changes to design documents as required to obtain compliance with applicable codes and regulations.

  • Responsible for preparing written correction letters and maintaining and updating records and database information.

  • Work with building inspectors to resolve field related code issues and coordinate activities with other City departments as directed.

  • Capable of reviewing documents both as paper submittals, and electronic submittals using Bluebeam.

  • Have effective interpersonal and problem-solving skills in meeting with municipal representatives, clients, designers and contractors to resolve complex code issues.

Education

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Civil or Structural Engineering, Required

  • Master’s degree in Civil or Structural Engineering, Preferred or currently being pursued

Other Requirements:

  • Licensed as a Civil Engineer or an Architect in the State of California.

  • Possession of, or ability to obtain within one (1) year of hire, an International Code Council (ICC) Plans Examiner Certificate.

  • Possession of, or ability to obtain prior to employment, a valid Class C California Driver’s License and a good driving record. 

Structural Engineering License (SE) is desired but not required

Pay Range: $70.00-$75.00.
